Repair and Restore the Look of your Teeth with Crowns
Crowns offer a beautiful result without having to remove an existing tooth
In all cases, Catlett Family Dentistry strives to save the original teeth of all of our patients. Whenever possible, we avoid removing a tooth that could be saved. There are many reasons for this. First, when a tooth’s root is removed from the gums, other teeth may start to move into that space.
Second, if a replacement is not planned for some time (perhaps for financial reasons or conflicts in scheduling) the face can take on a different shape. Third, and perhaps the most important, when patients don’t have a full set of teeth, they tend to overcompensate on one side of the mouth, chewing differently, which can cause long-term problems. Crowns are a great solution to help avoid all of these issues.
When is a Crown Used?
Crowns are used for a number of reasons including to cover a damaged tooth that has healthy roots, or no roots at all, in the case of a root canal therapy. Crowns are also used in conjunction with bridges as part of installing new teeth where old teeth were lost or removed. They are also used as part of dental implants and sit atop a titanium post that has been surgically inserted into your jawbone.
Crowns are sturdy and effective at replacing or covering teeth. Because they are lifelike and strong, they can be used as part of cosmetic and general dentistry treatments. If you’ve lost a tooth and need to replace it, or if you’ve recently undergone mouth trauma and have broken teeth, crowns can provide the much-needed coverage you desire.
What are the Benefits of Crowns?
Crowns are long-lasting, although not permanent. They are made from several kinds of materials including composite resin, porcelain, gold, and metal. They are sturdy and can provide lifelike results resembling and blending in with your other teeth. Crowns prevent infections from getting into cracked or broken teeth and they can be applied right over your existing tooth so there is no need to remove any teeth.
